Hey there fellow web browsers! I have been trying to find new projects to keep me and my two year old occupied during this whole social distancing thing. I thought of this from a project i saw my cousin do with her younger siblings.
Without doing any research i plunged right into this one. I used plastic cups, broken crayons with similar colors and put them in the cups. I found it difficult to get the crayons to melt right away and it actually took a good four mins for each cup to melt down. This is probably because i didn't break the crayons small enough.
I remember as a child being obsessed with color and melted my crayons on a light bulb. Lots of fun but i did get burned quiet a few times. This project was too hot for my two year old. He didn't get to participate since the cups and fluid was super hot. But i still made some cute little robots and dinosaurs for him. Another challenge i faced with this one was how quickly the crayon mixture started to harden. Though no matter how many times i microwaved the mix it never burned. But i managed to makes ome cute crayons for him.
At the end i did try melting smaller bits of crayons down directly in the molds. This worked beautifully! I put the bits in the silicone mold and popped it in my 700 watt microwave for three minutes and it came out wonderfully.

Not quite the right consistency. Needed to be stirred and then popped in for another minute.

This one was put in the microwave in the mold.

These were poured from cups.

In conclusion next time im going to decimate the crayons and melt them in the molds.
